Blair Castle and Scone Palace

This has been a busy week in the office. Our trainers (the Madsen’s) finish their mission Friday and will no longer be immediately available for assistance. We are doing all we can to gather information from them and to take detailed notes about our daily responsibilities.

Friday night we needed “petrol” for our car, so in true Utah style, we went to Costco. It was £1.43 per liter, or £6.50 per gallon, or $8.13 per gallon. We are grateful for the Toyota hybrid vehicle that we drive. It gives us about 45 miles per gallon ($0.18 per mile).

Saturday was our P-day, so we had another opportunity to go and explore this beautiful country. We woke up to rain, but we did not let that stop us. Elder Madsen offered to drive. I was grateful for that. I am still learning to navigate the many roundabouts, but I’m getting better as time goes along. We headed north of Edinburgh crossing The Firth of Fourth using the Queen’s Ferry bridge.

On the way north, we passed the turn to St. Andrew’s Golf Course (the birthplace of golf). That will definitely be one of our future destinations.

Blair Atholl

It took us about 90 minutes to drive from Edinburgh to Blair Atoll. It is a village in the Scotland Highlands and home to Blair Castle. You read about the history of Blair Castle by clicking here. Fortunately, they allow pictures to be taken inside the castle. Here is a gallery of my photos. The trees were large, very old, and amazingly shaped.

Scone Palace

Heading south from Blair Atholl to Scone Palace (pronounced “skoon”). See the link for pictures of the interior. Cameras were not allowed inside, but I do have pictures of the exterior:

This was a very memorable day. We enjoy being with the Madsen’s and wish they could stay with us longer.

  1. Such a beautiful country. I’m glad you’re having a good time and I’m sure the time will pass fast and remember being stressed when our trainers left but it worked out. I learned fast I am enjoying your pictures. Thank you ♥️

  2. Hi Steve and Joan. I love your website! Elaine and I have been to Blair Castle three different times, and seeing your pictures brings back great memories. The “Blair” name is a family name of Elaine, and Elaine’s family has traced their direct genealogy as descendants of the Blairs.

If there is anything I can help you with your home or Sean, please let me know.

    Thanks and love, Kirby
